PTAG Bavington Train Maintenance Report.

The PTAG Bavington trail maintenance on Sunday had a good turnout. Arriving at 10:00 there was Allegro Hearth Bakery goods to be had. Then groups were organized and sent out with various tasks such as putting in some drainage pipe, brush clearing, and tree removal. Lora and I were tasked with tree clearing on the mail loop, also known as the Ewok’s playground. I used My BOB trailer to carry the chainsaw and large pruners. Ben had made a map with 3 trees marked on it. 2 of which were on the loop we were assigned to. Lora and Headed out and immediately ran into a new tree down from the heavy storms. We ended up removing 7 trees on that loop, 8 counting the small one on the double track back to the parking lot. Others were brush cutting on that loop and even cut in a reroute around a large mud hole.

The last tree we cleared was a big one. The trail there was pretty wide so I decided to cut a large section out and use it to make a feature. The tree was just slightly longer than my 24” chainsaw blade, but we managed to take care of it. Then we struggled to get it into place next to the other section. I think it made a nice feature.

After the maintenance was done a group ride headed out to enjoy the work that was done. A large assortment of large burritos from Chipote Mexican Grill in Robinson was delivered. Chips and salsa was also provided. Beverages were had and I raffled off 2 iPod shuffles. A PORC shirt was also raffled off.

It was a good day. Now go ride it before it grows back in!
